Could you offer a vulnerable child a home for good?

There are thousands of children currently waiting for adoption in the UK. Each one has experienced trauma and loss, and many have suffered neglect or abuse, and they all need a stable, loving and committed family to care for them.

2210

As of October 2023, there were 2,210 children waiting for adoption in England

48%

have been waiting for more than 18 months

3 years, 5 months

average age for adoption in England is 3 years and 5 months

Adoption is the opportunity to give a child, who can no longer be cared for by their birth family, a loving family to belong to for the rest of their lives, who will commit to them, nurture them and advocate for them, and give them a safe and settled home for good.

It’s important to acknowledge that the loss and trauma that is part of every child young person with care experience’s story will often, understandably, have an impact on their lives. Some may struggle with trust, confidence or building healthy relationships. Some may have health issues or additional needs. Some may find it challenging to understand and navigate big emotions.

Every child is unique. Every story is unique. How their story impacts their life will look different for each individual. But we know that each and every child and young person has inherent value and worth; they are brimming with potential. When adoption is deemed the best decision for a child, the stable home, unwavering support and loving relationships can allow children to thrive.

Adoptive families are needed for children of all ages and both genders, but there is often a particular need for families who are able to adopt groups of siblings, children with disabilities or medical needs, children of Black and minority ethnic heritage and children over the age of four.
