Home for Good launches urgent fundraising appeal

Change is possible. Your help is vital.

We have launched an urgent fundraising appeal in response to the shortage of homes for children who need them and a desperate need for more foster carers in the UK.

This year in the UK, around 36,000 children and young people will enter the care system. That’s 100 children every day.[1] Each and every child needs the same things to thrive: an environment that is stable, a home that feels safe, adults who they can turn to for care, support and encouragement.

The current shortage of carers means that too many children don’t have this. In some cases, children are having to move far away from all they know, and all that is familiar, such as their school or friends, because of a lack of carers in their local area. Often, sibling groups are split up because there aren’t enough carers with the skills and space to enable them to stay together.

Home for Good’s CEO, Tarn Bright, says:

“Foster carers provide children with a safe place to live while their birth family is unable to look after them. This could be for a few nights, months, years, or the duration of their childhood. Thousands more foster carers are urgently needed to meet the growing demand for homes.
In February 2023, the Government recognised the immense value of foster carers in the lives of children in care and committed to increasing the recruitment and retention of foster carers.[2]
At Home for Good we are committed to supporting the recruitment of new foster carers by raising awareness of the need within UK church communities and journeying with people as they explore opening their homes to a child who needs one.”

This urgent fundraising appeal will raise vital funds to support our mission to find a home for every child who needs one and facilitate the recruitment of new foster carers in the coming year. The goal is £20,000 and donations can be made via our JustGiving page. The appeal will be launched on 24 Feb and will run until 17 March.
