Home for Good is working with Leeds City Council’s fostering team to find new foster carers for children across the city.

The City Council have over 1400 children in care and children sometimes need to be placed in residential care when this isn’t the best plan for them, because a suitable foster home is unavailable.

The pandemic has only increased the challenge. The pressure of lockdown on families has increased the prevalence of alcohol or substance misuse, domestic violence, and the challenge of mental health issues, meaning increased risk for vulnerable children. The impact of this will be felt in the lives of children entering care for years to come.

We believe that, wherever possible, children should be cared for in a family and want to ensure this is always an option, and so we are working to help the local authority reach their goal of finding at least 200 more foster families over the next 3 years to ensure that every child has the home they need at the time they need it.

We believe that church communities in Leeds can make an incredible difference and we are asking Christians across the area to consider whether they could open their home to a vulnerable child through fostering.
