Pathway to fostering
As Christian individuals, couples and families explore fostering, we journey with them to understand their faith motivation, whilst ensuring value and respect is central to this process. We know that we don’t need to be a fostering agency to do this, because there are great local authorities (LAs) and not-for-profit independent fostering agencies (IFA’s) keen to welcome prospective foster carers, who recognise the supportive role of faith.
Local Authorities, Health and Social Care (HSCNI) trusts in Northern Ireland, and agencies who have grant agreements with Home for Good are keen to receive fostering applications from people motivated by faith. To encourage shared understanding and respect, we deliver Faith Literacy Training to some of their staff. We connect enquirers directly to Local Authorities or not-for-profit Fostering Agencies that we have an existing agreement with.
Home for Good aspires to find homes for the children who often wait the longest for an appropriate foster placement. This aspiration is shared by the Local Authorities or not-for-profit Fostering Agencies we partner with. Usually, these children fall into at least one of the following categories:
- sibling groups of three or more
- children with complex, additional or health needs
- children of black and minority ethnic heritage
- older children and teenagers
